On March 12, 2019, the Minister of State for Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth, H.E. Violette Khairallah Safadi, met the representatives of the multi-country gender project on “Strengthening access to protection, participation and services for women refugees, Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and women in the host communities in Lebanon” funded by the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU “MADAD” Fund. The meeting was attended by the Program Manager at EU delegation in Lebanon Ms. Roula Abbas, and the International Consultant for the National Gender Observatory in Lebanon Ms. Birgitta Holst Alani.
Ms. Birgitta Holst Alani congratulated H.E. Violette Khairallah Safadi for her new role and thanked the ministry for its continuous support and for hosting the National Gender Observatory. She also shared the project’s updates with the newly appointed minister.
Funded by the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU “MADAD” Fund, EFI started implementing the two-year multi-country project in Lebanon, Iraq/Kurdistan Region – Iraq (KR-I) and in Jordan on September 1st, 2018. In Lebanon, the project pioneers comprehensive service provision to women and girls refugees and host communities, supporting 12 centers of the Ministry of Social Affairs and 4 centers of RDFL. The program combines emergency response with long-term development, supporting the engendering of policies and strategies on the crisis response and establishing a National Gender Observatory hosted by the Office of the Minister of State for Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth.
