On March 5, 2019, Minister of Social Affairs, H.E. Richard Kouyoumjian met with a delegation from EuroMed Feminist Initiative, represented by Executive Director Boriana Jonsson, accompanied by EU MADAD Country Manager Laura El-Khoury and National Gender Observatory Consultant in Lebanon Birgitta Holst Alani. During the meeting, H.E. Richard Kouyoumjian introduced the two years´ multi-country project “Strengthening access to protection, participation and services for women refugees, Internally Displaced People” IDPs” and host communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq” funded by the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU 'MADAD' Fund.
Ms. Boriana Jonsson highlighted that the added value of the project lies in addressing the immediate needs of the most vulnerable women and bringing them to policy level while stressing on the rights of women and girls victims of sexual and gender based violence to have access to safe spaces, psychosocial support, information about their rights, as well as legal consultation and advice.
H.E. Kouyoumjian expressed the Ministry of Social Affairs’ interest in the project in Lebanon as its objectives fall within the ministry’s vision to improve the livelihood, agency and legal and social protection for Syrian women refugees, IDPs as well as for women in the host communities in Lebanon through the twelve Service Development Centers of the ministry covering different areas Lebanon.
In Lebanon, EFI is partnering with Care International Lebanon (CIL), Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) and Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering (RDFL).
