The Research Policy Group of the National Gender Observatory in Lebanon held its first meeting on 7 March 2019 at the Office of the Minister of State for Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth. The National Gender Observatory is supported by the European Union Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU “MADAD”, in the framework of the multi-country gender program “Strengthening access to protection, participation and services for women refugees, Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and host communities”.
Hosted by the Office of the Minister of State for Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth, the National Gender Observatory works to enhance the institutional capacities and cross-sector coordination mechanisms in order to ensure the improvement of the situation for women and girls in Lebanon, and thereby support an engendered response to the protracted Syrian crisis in particular.
The Research Policy Group is chaired by Dr. Nasser Yassin, Director of Research at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. It consists of academics and researchers from Issam Fares Institute, the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese American University, the Arab Institute for Women and the Collective for Research and Training on Development – Action.
