Ms. Boriana Jonsson, the Executive Director of Euromed Feminist Initiative and Ms. Susan Aref, Coordinator of the 1325 CSTF in Iraq met Mr. Mahdi Al-Alak, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers on 6th of February 2018 in Iraq to discuss the latest development of the Iraqi women’s empowerment projects in the framework of the National Action Plan (NAP) on the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on women, peace and security.
Ms. Boriana Jonsson reiterated the continued support of Euromed Feminist Initiative for the CSTF 1325 in Iraq, stressing the initiative’s ongoing work with the European Union on preparing a regional program including Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. She added that the program seeks to support larger parts of the National Action Plan in Iraq, which focuses more on the services provided to displaced people, the status of women in the liberated areas, especially the Iraqi women that were affected by war.
In addition, she discussed the details of the conference that will take place on March 7-8, 2018 to launch a report on the implementation of the National Action Plan, the report will include the achievements and assessments of the implementation levels of the plan, which will coincide with the International Women's Day.
For his part, Mr. Al-Alak stressed the importance of the resolution and its role in empowering Iraqi women in various fields.
