In the framework of the SIDA-funded programme « Supporting political transition in Syria through gender-sensitive social reconstruction » and in preparation of the Brussels Conference : « Supporting the future of Syria and the region » (9-10 May 2022), EuroMed Feminist Initiative and the Syrian Gender Advocacy Group (GAG) organised a side event followed by a GAG meeting (5-6 May 2022).
The side-event: « Combating VAWG – From Words to Action » (5 May) brought together members of the civil society and international decision-makers, including Per Örnéus, Ambassador, Special Envoy to the Syria Crisis at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Mr. Carl Hallergard, European External Action Service (EEAS) Director, Deputing Managing Director Middle East and Northern Africa. The main conveyed message was the need to continue focusing on the Syrian crisis, as the situation is still worsened by the Covid- pandemic and the Lebanon crisis.
A GAG meeting took place after the side event. One of the main issues on the agenda was discussing and finalizing a statement aimed at addressing recommendations and demands to the EU, national decision-makers, the United Nations and donors prior to the Brussels Conference. The meeting also covered discussions on the mechanisms of spreading the Common Agenda and its adoption by Syrian CSOs as well as the GAG Strategic Plan : how to turn the recommendations of the Common Agenda into concrete actions.
Both meetings were hold in person and online.
