Sexual violence is always used as a tactic of war and terror in places affected by conflicts, resulting in a horrific toll on survivors and societies and leading to impunity. It has to stop. On this International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the EuroMed Feminist Initiative urges the International community to deter and combat all forms of violence against women and girls by implementing the Security Council’s “Women, Peace and Security” resolution, notably through its own national action plan as well as intensifying efforts to prevent all forms of gender-based violence.
Impunity against perpetrators has to be addressed. Perpetrators of sexual violence must be accountable. Silence should not be the rule any longer.
