On the rememberance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, EuroMed Feminist Initiative acknowledges that Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) still exists in times of peace and is exacerbated in times of armed conflicts.
In Syria, VAWG has increased since the beginning of the crisis adding new forms of violence such as conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and growing enforced disappearance, detention and torture. The percentage of girls who have been taken out of school forcibly, coerced into early marriage or facing the risk of human trafficking has escalated.
