Building on the outcomes of the first meeting held in Amman in August 2021, the Regional Observatory on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) hosted by the EuroMed Feminist Initiative (EFI), held its second expert group meeting in Paris, France on September 29, and September 30. The Expert Group discussed the Regional Index’s framework and the application of composite indicators method, as well as the mechanism of work for developing the 2021 VAWG Index.
Combating Violence against Women in the Southern Mediterranean Region
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the Southern Neighborhood.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- VAWG is addressed by civil society (CS) and decision makers alike as a social and political issue.
- Increased capacities and number of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that combat VAWG.
- The establishment of a civil society Regional Observatory to follow up and monitor the governmental commitments in the area of VAWG, WPS and PVE as per the 4th UfM Ministerial Declaration (Cairo, 2017).
The Regional Observatory on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) hosted by the EuroMed Feminist Initiative in Amman, Jordan, invited in expert group of researchers, legal and gender expert to its first meeting to discuss the developing of the second edition of the Regional Index on VAWG. The objective is to continuously provide expert insights and analysis on the content, scope and use of the Regional Index on VAWG at national and regional level, with a view to continuously improving its quality, relevance, and impact in combating VAWG.
